География проектов «Смены» не ограничивается Татарстаном — события проходят по всей России, от Крайнего Севера до Дальнего Востока.
Smena Center for Contemporary Culture is an independent cultural institution in Kazan, operating since 2013. Smena organizes exhibitions of contemporary and classical art, laboratories and schools for children and teenagers, educational and professional programs, and urban development projects. It also publishes books. Smena's work extends across Russia, from the Arctic North to the Far East.

В четырех магазинах представлены книги независимых российских издательств, не попадающие на полки сетевых магазинов. Здесь можно найти издания о современной культуре, редкие альбомы по искусству, отечественную и мировую прозу, интересные книги для детей и актуальный нон-фикшн.
From the beginning, Smena has operated an independent bookstore specializing in intellectual literature. Across four locations, the bookstores stock publications by independent Russian publishers rarely found in large retail chains: books on contemporary culture, rare art albums, Russian and international fiction, curated children's books, and current nonfiction.
В 2015 году «Смена» запустила свое издательство, специализирующееся на текстах современных авторов и малоизвестных культурно-исторических сюжетах, связанных с Казанью, Татарстаном и Поволжьем. Идея серии — соединить локальный текст с иллюстрациями современных художников, которые создают работы специально для выбранной книги.
In 2015, Smena launched its own publishing house, focusing on contemporary authors and lesser-known cultural and historical stories connected to Kazan, Tatarstan, and the Volga region. The series pairs local texts with original artwork by contemporary artists.
В галерее «Смены» проходят выставки современного искусства с участием известных российских и зарубежных художников. «Смена» также создает инфраструктуру для развития художников из Татарстана, помогает им найти аудиторию и делать их работы более узнаваемыми.

«Смена» еженедельно организовывает образовательные и культурные мероприятия. За 13 лет в «Смене» прошло более 900 лекций по естественным, точным, гуманитарным и социальным наукам, более 160 кинопоказов и концертов современной музыки.

Сегодня в здании «Смены» работают архив Фонда поддержки аудиовизуального и технологического искусства «Прометей» имени Булата Галеева, редакция интернет-издания «Инде», проект «Казань глазами инженера», магазин виниловых пластинок «Сияние», спешалти-кофейня «Фильтр» и гастробар «Солома».
Today, the Smena building houses the archive of the Bulat Galeev Prometheus Foundation for Audiovisual and Technological Art, the editorial office of online media Inde, the project Kazan Through the Eyes of an Engineer, vinyl record store Siyanie, specialty coffee shop Filter, and gastrobar Soloma.

Книжные фестивали — флагманские события «Смены», которые проходят два раза в год — летом и зимой. Зимний книжный фестиваль 2013 года стал первым событием в «Смене». Фестиваль задумывался как камерное место встречи казанцев с независимыми издательствами, но с годами разросся до масштабного городского праздника. С 2017 года летом проходит в центральном парке Казани — «Черном озере» — и собирает до 20 тысяч человек.
С 2017 года команда «Смены» проводит единственный в России фестиваль дебютного документального кино «Рудник». Он состоит из двух важных частей — конкурсной программы дебютных фильмов и образовательных мастерских.

Book festivals are the flagship events of Smena, which are held twice a year – in summer and winter. Winter Book Festival 2013 was the first event in Smena. The festival was conceived as a chamber meeting place for citizens of Kazan with independent publishers, but over the years it has grown into a large-scale city festival. Since 2017, the summer festival is held in the central park of Kazan — “Black Lake” — and gathers up to 20 thousand people.
Since 2017 Smena team has been holding the only Russian festival of debut documentary film “Rudnik”. It consists of two important parts — the competition program of debut films and educational workshops.
